Velada por la Justicia y la Paz , Amsterdam

Mexico traditionally starts celebrating the day of the dead at the end of October. In this celebration, mexican people reflect on the concept of death and the value of life. Each house, each square, town, neighbourhood, school and city honors the visit of their dead, as we wait for them to come back to us once more. For that purpose we build an altar with flowers, music, pain and joy for them to come back to, eat and rejoice in their celebration. This is how we celebrate and welcome our beloved that were once with us.

The group of Mexicans in the Netherlands for peace in Mexico take this opportunity to remember our dead and speak about peace, love and justice for them and their families. Let’s name the dead so everyone knows they once lived here and that we hold a big “debt of peace and justice owed to them and ourselves, so the whole of Mexico knows that no citizen will ever again allow a political project to be built on hate, corruption, impunity, war and death” (Sicilia 2011).

Program:

1. Registration and Welcome. Documentary ” Mexican Death”.

2. Opening words by Mexicans in Netherlands for Peace.

3. Talk: “Ofrendas y Altares Mesoamericanos”. ( “Mesoamerican offerings and altars”).

4. Presentation of the offering “Naming our dead”, and ritual for the four cardinal points..

5. Reading, “Los 72 que murieron”. (” The 72 that died” )

6. Interactive action. “Sowing the path of Peace”.

7. Llorona and Sandunga

8. Dinner and short film “Hasta los huesos”. – René Castillo.

En la actualidad la “celebración para los muertos” en México comienza a finales del mes de octubre. En estas fechas los mexicanos reflexionamos sobre el concepto de la muerte y el valor de la vida. En cada casa, en cada plaza, pueblo, barrio, escuela, ciudad se honra la llegada de los difuntos. Esperamos que nuestros muertos vengan una vez más a estar junto a nosotros. Por ello hacemos un altar con flores, comida, música, dolor y alegría para que convivan, coman y se deleiten de todo ello. Así los mexicanos festejamos y damos la bienvenida a todos nuestros seres queridos que alguna vez estuvieron con nosotros.

Por este motivo el Grupo mexicanos por la paz en México aquí en Holanda nos reuniremos para juntar nuestros dolores, recordar a nuestros muertos y manifestar nuestra voluntad de paz, de amor y de justicia para ellos y sus familiares. Salgamos a nombrar a nuestros muertos para que todos sepan que alguna vez habitaron aquí y que tenemos una deuda inmensa con su memoria, con” la justicia y la paz que les debemos y nos debemos, para que todo México sepa también que ningún ciudadano permitirá más que se construya ningún proyecto político sobre el odio, la corrupción, la impunidad, la guerra y la muerte” (Sicilia 2011).
